I soon discovered that being suspended from school and grounded at the same time was very boring. Every day was worse than the last. I found myself eagerly awaiting my sister's return, so that I would at least have someone to talk to.   
On this particular day, about a week after being suspended, I sat before the window in the front room. Every so often, my eyes wandered to the clock on the wall, which now displayed the time as being two-fifty in the afternoon.

"We're moving," my father announced unceremoniously to my twin sister and I as we sat down to dinner. There was none of his usual bracing manner, his desire to soften the blows of bad news. Just a simple statement, firm, set in stone.   
My sister did not seem to care much. She was not a social butterfly; she preferred to stay inside, to sit at the piano for hours and hours, practicing endlessly until everything was perfect. She had nothing to leave behind, no friends, no nothing—the piano would come with us, and so she was satisfied.

I am so, so frustrated with Seven Nation Army at the moment. I'm not giving up on it, but I am going to take a break from it for a little while. Actually, I intended to take a break from writing in general. But then this little idea I've had in the back of my mind for a long time started jumping up and down and yelling, "me, me, pick me!" So... I started writing a new short story.

And then that short story started turning into a not-so-short story.

And now it's looking like it's gonna be a novel.

I don't really want to give away too much of what the... ahem... "short" story is going to be about, but I will say that it involves an emo band, fabulous costumes, and saving the world. Or at least saving the neighborhood.
